This program is geared to young paddlers who have experienced CanoeKids or other recreational paddling and would like to try sprint kayaks and canoes. These athletes will train with the sprint program but are not required to attend weekend regattas. However, athletes are always welcome to try out a regatta and experience SLCC’s encouraging team spirit! :)
Intro to Sprint athletes will gain stability and comfortability in sprint kayaks and canoes in a fun, safe and engaging manner. These athletes will develop their paddling skills under SLCC’s Head and Assistant Coaches and are always encouraged to join the Sprint program if they love the sport!
Intro to Sprint may just be the best form of cross-training during the offseason, especially for hockey players! Athletes will stay in shape and improve their cardio and core muscle development through the Intro to Sprint long-term athletic development program.
Feeling a little nervous about trying out new sprint kayaks and canoes? Who said you had to paddle solo? Bring a friend with you to try out crew boats!
Four (4) weeks are recommended to gain stability in boats and establish paddling skills but are not required.
